The beginning...

My first ever post.. I think I'll just get straight into it ^^

It was mum's birthday on Saturday and my sister and I decided on dinner at Masuya which is a Japanese restaurant hidden away in O'Connell Street, Sydney. I've been there on 2 other occasions and it's left me wanting more. I was excited about having their Sapporo Hot Pot which i fell in love with during my first visit. I love that the broth is a soy milk and sweet miso base which is different from the normal hot pots you have at a Japanese restaurant and is also so good for your skin. I also love the sashimi at Masuya, it's always so fresh.

Agedashi Tofu R 5.80 L 8.80
The Agedashi Tofu was alright. I think it's always a nice way to start the meal.

The Spider Roll 17.80
The Spider Roll was spot on, the soft shell crab was fried to a perfect crisp. One of my favourite shush rolls of all time.
The scampi was very fresh and sweet

Masuya’s Sashimi Boat 78.00
We also ordered one of the sashimi boats as my parents love to eat raw fish. Once again the sashimi was very fresh. It was my first time trying the scampi and OMG its soooooo sweet and tasty. Something I will be eating more often I think.

Wagyu Beef Miso (230g) 32.80
Unfortunately they didn't rest the beef long enough, but still very tasty
The beef was not those melt in your mouth wagyu but it was still very good. The sauce I think is the key element to the dish. The accompaniments were quite delish themselves.Overall the dish was nice but I think they should have rested the beef a bit longer as the juices were all over the plate.

One of Masuya Signature Dish - Jewfish Masuya’s Way (mulloway) 23.00
One of the signature dishes of Masuya is their jewfish. A mouthwatering piece of fish wrapped with a potato net and then baked. The potato was crunchy and moreish. The fish was moist and not flaky, topped off with a dill lime butter sauce & soy infusion sauce which made the dish even more so.

Sapporo Hot Pot 45.00
My bad !
Last but not least, the soy milk hot pot arrived. It was packed full of seafood! We had to wait a painful 15 minutes before it was ready to eat. I made the horrendous mistake of adding more soup into the pot before it was ready and had the soup poring over the pot when it was ready. The hot pot had salmon, whole scallops, blue swimmer crab, fish, chicken, fish balls and veges. They also gave us 3 fresh oysters to add to the pot. The soup was perfect for a cold night. There were many other tables that had ordered one of the hot pots on their menu.

Overall it was an unforgettable night. I will definitely be back to try more of their dishes.
